Bioessence Review: Where Beauty Meets The Eye

The ravages of time leave its mark upon our face and bodies - and the good news is that those wrinkles, fine lines, and other imperfections may be erased by Bioessence.

Learn more about how you can be more beautiful, fast.

Bioessence has been around for nearly 2 decades. Celebrating their 17th year, this company has earned their excellent reputation in skin care by offering solutions for nearly every skin problem at affordable prices. And, if you compare their services, you would be delighted to discover that the price is very much lower than many other skin care centers in its class.

I would have spent most probably the rest of my lifetime never knowing that my skin problems would be solved with non-surgical methods if drinking coffee at Figaro, Pergola Mall, in BF Homes, didn't have an extra perk for a certain amount purchased, giving me Bioessence certificate that offered a choice of 3 services.

It was a Tuesday afternoon when I decide to wander into the Biossence BF Branch to get a facial. After filling up the standard form, the skin consultant brought me to the room, and she placed on the table an ultra-violet face scanner! Wow... it was amazing! This machine detects the skin problems scientifically - it's not a hit or miss- but a sophisticated assessment equipment that maps out the face for the skin consultant to know exactly what is wrong.

You have just got to visit any of their branches to try out ultra-violet face scanner during your

I have been to a lot of skin care centers before and have had a whole load of facials. So after the assessment was done, I decided to reschedule my facial for Thursday with the additional services of a diamond peel.

When I left Bioessence, I went to one of the other hangout places in Phase I, BF Homes. Much to my dismay, I ended up seeing a woman who was very abrasive in her attitude. She had on a ton of makeup daily because her skin was so awful with acne scars and fine lines, she has to cover it up. She said to me that I need to cut my hair rather than keep it tied up the Spanish style that I am used to. Argh! It was so irritating, as I just had so to hold my tongue as I wanted to tell her that instead of spending on makeup and going to the parlor, she has to get back to the basics and get good skin care.

I have good skin and I care for it so much, that I even studied cosmetology at TESDA. The makeup style nowadays is the natural look, wherein one uses BB creams and mineral makeup so the skin may shine through and breathe. The weather in the Philippines is one that makes it essential to have clear skin. And, not always may we wear makeup like when we are sleeping or at the beach, right?

I got my facial and diamond peel on Thursday, My skin shined with health and the glow of new skin revealed by the diamond peel. Unlike the other more costly diamond peel I had, Biossence was able to reduce the appearance of the dark circles under my eyes.

And, look at the dead skin cells and what they got to extract! Yucky but who want those impurities on their face!

I went back to that other coffee shop for that woman to see my beautiful clear and nearly wrinkle-free face. She stared at me astounded as I did not have a bit of makeup on.

A lot of other skin care centers ply you with advertising and tell you things like you will look 5 years younger. This is not the case with this company - but the results speak for themselves, as that day, as the woman was there, a male friend remarked that I look like I am 2 years younger with one diamond peel!

Look at the pretty ladies of Bioessence BF branch and see how their skin glows with health through gentle skin care.

If you want to be more beautiful, get down to the basics, and have healthy skin. Inquire today at any Bioessence branch and ask for a free skin consultation so that you will be assessed with the high-tech equipment that will show exactly what the problem is.

I look forward to my next visit to this skin care clinic as I am also privileged enough to be one of the winners to their Meet and Greet event! I am so glad that I have Bioessence to care for me so I may have celebrity skin!

A Berocca A Day Keeps Anxiety Attacks Away

In this hectic world, even staying home has daily stressors that may lead to anxiety, that ultimately - when left untreated, becomes an anxiety attack. These attacks, when happening frequently, becomes a panic disorder.

The signs that an anxiety attack is coming on are easily detected but one must have an awareness of what they are. These include lack of concentration, shortness of breath, a feeling of overwhelming sadness, and repetitive negative thoughts.

Anxiety can be cured. Anxiety isn't normal as worrying about what might happen, especially if these thoughts keep on repeating and it comes to a point where the fear of what is to come encompasses our lives, disrupts relationships, and makes us refuse to do things that others do... it is time to stop anxiety.

Here's a funny video of one of the ways to stop anxiety.

Half a lifetime ago, with the energy of youth, I wanted to be unstoppable. You might know the feeling - get to wake up early, tackle school, go out with friends to party all night, and go on without ever crashing from exhaustion.  Our group would compare the vitamins we take, and one day, in a drug store in Makati, I wandered in with my friend who wanted to buy Berocca.

After the virtues were extolled, I decided to buy one container that contained 10 large tablets that become an effervescent drink. I love watching the fizz transform!

Here's my totally complete set of goodies that I won lately from the Berocca twitter promo.

We have a saying that one should take Berocca to avoid getting berated. Berate meas that someone will rebuke or scold angrily and at length. Since we don't want to be that way, taking Berocca keeps our tongues in check as the attitude is that of no anxiety.

Anxiety attacks can be brought on by drinking caffeinated drinks like coffee and softdninks. The low happens after the boosting effect has gone - so one may end up drinking endless cups of coffee just to keep on being perked up.

Unlike Berocca, chocked full of minerals and stimulant-free, the power up is natural and lasts longer. When boost stays for a longer period of time because it make the body healthy and there is no 'let down' feeling.

Take a Berocca a day to keep the energy levels up. Be good to your body and have a healthy mind with a daily drink of Berocca.

Flirt Waxing Lounge - Pampering Beauty Services in the City

Flirt Waxing Lounge is a place to relax and enjoy being pampered. Located in 91 East Capitol Drive, Bo. Kapitolyo, Pasig, it might be a bit far for some of us but it is worth the trip.

I have read about their place because it was featured in Cosmopolitan and OK magazine, and was planning to go there one of these days so I found them on Facebook.

After liking their page, I decide to join their contest. Much to my surprise, I won! The Flirt Waxing Lounge package featured in this review is the one that I had won from their Facebook promo. This beauty package included waxing services, manicure and nail art, pedicure, foot spa, and a 30 minute foot massage.

I had to contact them to make reservations, and it was especially nice of them to say yes to allow the prize to be transferred to one of my daughters as I what I had won which I couldn't avail of because I was out of town, so as a thank you to them, we wrote this Flirt Waxing Lounge review.

Flirt Waxing Lounge Review

The place is spacious and the ambiance is good. Flirt Waxing Lounge was relaxing and hushed where you can have privacy. The place was purple, which made it relaxing. I was so glad that the management was so kind, that they said yes for me to exchange eyebrow and upper lip threading, was allowed to be changed for a bikini wax instead!

The Flirt Waxing Lounge staff were all nice and very good at their jobs. They all knew what they were supposed to do.

Their waxing area was private, and had a comfortable feel to it. The bikini wax that I availed of was painless, unlike all the others I had in other places - and because of this no-pain hair removal, I would definitely go back to get my waxing services there.

Flirt Waxing Lounge had long nice lounging couches, which made it more comfortable when I had my mani and pedi services. The footspa came with a cooling gel for moisturizer that stays on for at least 10 minutes and it was very invigorating, and the foot massage was one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Flirt Waxing Lounge have a mini cafe that offers sandwiches, shakes and desserts, so that anytime you need to eat, there is food at a reasonable prices.

I love the place, the service, and their professionalism. I greatly recommend for anyone who want top-notch waxing services to make it a point to go to Flirt Waxing Lounge. ~M.P.D.~

Dad's EDSA Buffet: Filipino Restaurant Review

Dad's buffet is an eat-all-you can dream come true. There is nearly everything imaginable that the palate looks for, especially for the ones with more sophisticated taste.

Parking is easy and there is valet parking available. The place has a hushed atmosphere like that of a hotel. Upon entering the front door, there is a small reception area, and another door to the left that leads to the main dining area.

Dad's has many tables in their spacious main dining area. I am unsure of how many function rooms they have for private parties but the one I went to may easily accommodate 50 people. Unlike many Philippine restaurants, Dad's only offers their buffet and what I was informed as the grill-all-you-can that is located in the upper floor. The price for the buffet is at PHP 695 and the grill-all-you-can is slightly lower though I may not give specifics as I was unable to get more details as I was focused on the feast that was laid out.

The buffet was expansive. From one wall to another wall, it was a display of mouth-watering dishes from Filipino specialties, barbecues, roasts, Spanish food, and Japanese.

The center buffet tables where laden with the ingredients for a more than awesome halo-halo, a pasta area, and the sweet desert medley that was would make anyone break their diet.

The service was superb. And, the people who were portioning out the food would take extra effort to give a rundown of all that was laid out and make it a point to ask what part was preferred. And, I love the way their personnel aren't camera-shy.

Note: This review features only a few of the highlights as I was thoroughly enjoying the birthday celebration of my uncle that was held here.

The Bourne Legacy: Movie Review

Press and VIP screening of The Bourne Legacy, August 13, Cinema 1 SM MOA

The Bourne Legacy is a dynamic, epic film staring the Avengers "Hawk-Eye" Jeremy Renner. Mostly shot in the Philippines, The Bourne Legacy is as the good as the trailer looks, promising good action fights and a little bit of humor here and there.

Though the book series of The Bourne are a trilogy, the four Bourne movies are all wonderful, but Jeremy Renner makes the Bourne Legacy particularly intriguing.

The cocktail party was delightful. Sponsored by Spy, they also gave complimentary Spy wine cooler drinks around. I tasted it, and it was delicious.

The scrumptious gourmet food was catered by Golden Cape Catering Services.

I had fun, and the movie and party was glorious.

Elvinario's RestoBar Review

Delight yourself and friends in this wonderful resto-bar near the Halls of Justice in Manila. Elvinario's is a hang-out place for lawyers and the ones who work in court. At first glance, one might think that it was ordinary but there is something superb about it that many might not notice, yet still enjoy.

Most resto-bars are air-conditioned, as with this one, but the main difference I noted is that even when the food is cold, it still taste great. That takes a lot of skill to do - and for drinkers - this is something that is sought after.

I had the chance to visit Elvinario's during my daughter's Center for Pop recital.
Note that in the first picture above, the glasses were with Iced Tea.

The stage lighting was surprisingly excellent, the chairs ultra-comfortable, and everyone, no matter where they sat, had a good view of the performance.

The atmosphere is hushed and subdued, and the waiters unobtrusive. The prices are very reasonable and the menu choices are many.

I was informed by the chef that they were going to make some changes in the menu to supply their regular customers with something new. Here are a couple of the dishes that I enjoyed which is a special lumpia with curry sauce that was created for my testing and the wonderful lasagna which was so cheesy and meaty, there was more than enough for me and my daughter to share.

Elvinario's closes rather early compared to the other bars, if I remember correctly, it shuts down at around 1or 2 am. I believe that it would be a great place to go to for happy hour or dinner with a few drinks after.

Elvinario's RestoBar is located at 1227 Ma. Orosa st. Ermita, Manila

Greenwich Barkada: A Good Group

Are you part of the Greenwich Barkada? Want to share some fun - aside from pizza? There are many reason why you should be part of this group - and if you love Greenwich as much as we do, then that is the best one!

Greenwich has been a family favorite for many years - and the kids know that if they ask me for a pizza or lasagna - it's easy for me to say 'Yes' because of the affordable prices. My personal favorite is the Chicken a la King which I eat even for an afternoon snack.

I love joining contests and raffles on Facebook and Twitter, though I do get quite choosy of what exactly to join because I believe that only the ones given by reputable companies are worthwhile. I don't exactly remember how I stumbled upon the Greenwich Barkada contest but I am quite happy that I did!

American Idol season was on, and it was Jessica Sanchez battling it out. My daughter, Almond, had just enrolled for summer classes in Center for Pop - and I saw the tweet from Greenwich - it looked like the American Idol microphone that their judges was using. And, they were giving away around 30, if I remember correctly.

I showed the twitpic to Almond, and of course, she wanted it! So, to join the fun, and hopefully win the contest, I tweeted out her photo (sorry if it is not too clear) to Greenwich and said I wanted to win it for her!

Here's another one - does the hat look familiar?

The hat belongs to Gab Alipio of Urbandub and Franco band!

This is me with Gab Alipio - and a clear picture of his tattoos!

And, much to our delight, we WON one of the American Idol prizes!
But, along the way, someone tweeted me that it was a speaker, yet we didn't care!
It is a wonderful gift from Greenwich!

Here's what Almond has to say about the prize and Greenwich

"When the delivery guy came with my American Idol speaker I was so happy. I thought it was a microphone at first, but then I saw it was a speaker. Its fun to pretend its a microphone while musics blasting out of the speaker itself.

I choose Greenwich compared to the other restaurants because it always tastes good and its always great. I love eating your lasagna, pizza, everything! Greenwich has a comfortable eating atmosphere that I like."

Many of us Filipinos have think that 'barkada' is not a good thing. But, with the right barkada, the right friends, it is the best thing as there is something positive achieved and a lot of happy moments shared.

And, hopefully, Greenwich Barkada, in appreciation of her review, would give Almond and her best friend a special treat so that she can blog about it!

Join the Greenwich Barkada today by liking their Facebook page and following their Twitter account.

Have You Tried Monde Mamon?

Monde Mamon
A Monde Nissin Product Review

Ready-to-eat snacks are what comes to mind when one hears the word Monde. Nearly everyone in the Philippines has tried Bingo cookies with filling, Eggnog, and Breadstick. My latest favorite was the One One Rice Crackers as these are so crispy!

I literally got introduced to Monde Mamon by a foodie friend. As we spoke about food products and the various items that Monde Nissin offers, and how our lives have changed because of having Lucky Me as a must-have to stock at home or in the office, my friend asked me...

"Have you tried Monde Mamon?"

I shamefully replied that I have not.

A couple of days later, my foodie friend drop by, and to my surprise, he gave me some!

Here's a closer look of the Monde Mamon package.

Looks tempting, doesn't it?

We carried on the conversation about Monde, and even wondered about how is the correct way to pronounce it. Well, in TV ads, one hears only one syllable which is 'mond' but as many Pinoys say it, it is 'mon-de'. Ah! You say tomato, and I say toma-toe, but when in the Philippines, say it the way Pinoys do!

Here's my daughter, Almond, serious about her first taste Monde Mamon!

And, this is how the Monde Mamon looks like inside!

Why should you try Monde Mamon?

Unlike other mamons, it's just the right sweetness.
Won't overload you with sugar.
Eat plain or top with cheese or jam.
Great to eat with hotdogs and the like instead of bread.
Perfect for people who have difficulty chewing.
Light and fluffy but filling!
The creamy vanilla taste is outstanding.
Great to take along.
Won't expire quickly like mamons from bakeries.
Truly a Filipino product.

If you have been looking for bread to stock up or take along for snack and outings, then you have found the right one - it's Monde Mamon. I do stock up, but since everyone loves it, it runs out fast. But, no worries, as it is quite inexpensive, just like all the Monde Nissin products.

Almond wishes that Monde Nissin would be able to give us some of her favorites, such as One One Rice Crackers and Snow Crackers, Bingo Orange, and of course, Fita and Skyflakes for Dad. She says it would be good to have a whole load of these in our home as she like to have good snacks to eat, take along, and share with her friends. That's one of the reasons why we go through our stock so fast - as she always brings along 2 or 3 extra ones to share!

And, I am glad my foodie friend shared with our family the Monde Mamon, as now we have a new favorite!

Have you tried Monde Mamon? Try it today!

Of My Glad Kitchen And Things

Some of the most beloved memories are that of learning experiences. If you want to learn how to cook and bake, it starts off with observing the people who do so. This way, you pick up the techniques that come with years of experience.

One of the people who greatly contributed to my cooking and baking skills was my grandaunt, the late Adeliada Lopez Locsin Ledesma. I used to watch her in the kitchen and everything she did, in my opinion, was perfect.

That's because she would use a recipe, and if necessary, revise it a little to her satisfaction. And, to be able to cook, she has complete equipment, such as a Kitchen Aid mixer and Glad Kitchen products. What I learned from her was how to save money by planning meals, proper marketing, and wise shopping for quality products.

When she passed away, a few years ago, she had left behind many things that were still packed in their original box. Since she had no children, my grandmother, decided to give these to me as I and my children are the ones who cook and bake at a professional level. Included in these things was a kitchen organizer for supplies such as aluminium foil. I love it and placed it on top of one of my refrigerators.

My home has a Glad Kitchen, like my grandmother. As a loyal Glad Kitchen supplies user, I liked their Facebook page to learn more and get a lot of cooking and baking tips.

And, it was very nice to be able to win one of the Glad Kitchen gift packs. And, I think that everybody would love to see who it looks in the kitchen organizer that I got from my beloved grandaunt! It's overflowing!

Never compromise on quality and use only the best in kitchen supplies.

Ultima's Kitchen

Being inspired by a recent Globe Tattoo contest, it made me want to share more about what my girls can do and how the create their own unique recipes. Let's say the proud mother in me would like to do so.

This is my eldest daughter, Ultima. Most people call her Timi. I call her 'Mi Ultima'. My late husband used to call her Maritima.

Smart, intelligent, a working college student (UP), she also has 2 Tesda certificates, one for Cooking and the other for Hotel and Restaurant Services. Timi is an excellent cook. She could butterfly a chicken at the age of 11. Being a whiz at the kitchen seems like second nature to her, and like all that she does, she excels.

Her cooking style is one that states, "I have to be true to the recipe but need to make it more awesome" and she repeats her favorite dining experiences by creating the dishes at home.

Here are her apple pies made in the muffin pans- more to share!

Same pan but now Chocolate Chip Muffins! Mouthwatering!

And, to make one of her favorites more fantastic - more in every bite!
Sushi and Sashimi Platter.

I hope you enjoyed feasting your eyes on these great dishes!

Beauty and brains, wit and charm, 'everybody loves Timi' is what people say about her.

She is one of the women in this world who strives for the better, independently, and makes everything and every life she touches more wonderful.

Strive to be a little more awesome in whatever you do. Do that extra thing to make things better. That extra special touch makes our lives more wonderful, and if you do it daily, then each day, even while at home, will be more memorable.

Bacalao On A Budget

It's Good Friday and you might want to make Bacalao, a Spanish dish with tomatoes and a very expensive dried cod fish. To be able to make this popular Lenten dish, one can use an alternative for the main ingredient.

The substitute for Bacalao is labahita. It's a kind of Filipino dried fish that is very fleshy, with less bones that most others, butterflied open, and has no head.

Bacalao is easy to make. You don't have to be a kitchen whiz to make it. It a simple saute and boil dish. Here's the Bacalao-Labahita recipe which include the substitutes to be able to make it on a budget.

Bacalao-Labahita

Ingredients:

3 large pieces labahita, soaked in water overnight or for 12 hours
1 large onion, chopped
5 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1 kilo potatoes, diced
1 can garbanzos, drained, skin removed
1 packet frozen sweet green peas
1 can of crushed tomatoes (or 1 medium sachet tomato sauce/1 sachet or can tomato paste)
1 small can sliced  pimientos (or 1 large bell pepper, seeded and sliced, white parts removed)
Water
Pepper to taste
Olive oil for sauteing (or any other oil)

Directions:

Choose the fleshiest and whitest labahita. After soaking, rinse well under running water to remove salt it was dried in. Shred, discard bones and tails, place aside.

Line the medium deep pan with 1cm of oil. Heat the oil and saute the garlic until light brown and then the onions until wilted slightly. Add in the labahita, stir fry for around 3 minutes on medium-high heat.

Add in the rest of the ingredients. Add enough water to cover ingredients and mix well. Let boil, stirring often. When the sauce has reduced and is thick, the potatoes are cooked, you are done.

Serve with bread or hot rice.

Have a Blessed Holy Week.

The Frap Bar: Extends Earth Hour

It's the little things you can do that makes the difference.

Now that's summer's here, my Mamaita, likes to keep cool.

"Do you see that little light there on the TV when it's off?" Mamaita said. "That means that thing is consuming electricity. Sure, it might be only a few centavos - but how many TVs do you have in your home?"

How many times has the wisdom of our elders fallen on deaf ears? We might have heard it too often like close the light, use a timer for the aircon, defrost the fridge, open the windows as you need fresh air.

It's March 31 and Earth Hour is tonight.

Shutting off lights for 60 minutes does signify something, doesn't it?

Especially since the Philippines has been on TOP of this awareness campaign, I would have to agree totally with an very interesting blog post about extending Earth Hour. Click this link to read the Pevonia Earth Hour blog post.

Extending Earth Hour is an Eco-Friendly Solution the Helps You Save Money!
Saving the planet helps you save your pocket. Though there are some more expensive environmental solutions, in the long run, it is worth it to Go Green. Here's one company that is doing what they can do to make the difference.

The Frap Bar is the newest craze when it comes to cold beverages.

Unlike Starbuck, Figaro, and most of the coffee shops, this is a Philippine franchising company. This translate to less expensive franchising and less expensive frappes!

The Frap Bar is spouting up in many places all over the Philippines and are present in many school events like the recent UP Fair.
Here's their Metrowalk kiosk. For those who don't know, Metrowalk is located at Ortigas Avenue. It's an al fresco place and there is usually free live bands playing in the center of this mall's letter U.

Have a frap, go to the Spa, shop, dance, play poker at the Metro Card Club, and have unlimited drinks and unlimited fun Fluids Metrowalk.

Do have a Filipino dinner before the drinking session at one of the best Philippine restaurants, i-Bagnet.

What did The Frap Bar do?

They changed their containers from plastic to paper. Might seem like a small difference to some but that is a major change when the main thing they serve are beverages.

Do a small thing to make the difference like The Frap Bar.
