Samgyupsalamat Newport: Ushering a New Year with Unlimited Food

Prosperity means that you have more than enough good food to eat.

Samgyupsalamat is the generic term in the Philippines for unlimited Korean BBQ. A forerunner in the industry, paving the way for many other similar restaurants, this food place has established more than just an industry for the Koreans in our country but integrated the love of Korean food to many Filipino people.

On January 2, 2020

Invited by David Valencia Ferro to go unli Samgyupsalamat at Newport Hotel in the Resorts World area in Pasay, I dropped everything that I was doing. Though the holiday season has made me indulge in all my favorite Filipino dishes, this treat from the management of Samgyupsalamat offered my choice of unli. In deciding what to wear, even my daughter, Maxi Quema, blogger of AxisMotion, helped me out as I can't wear anything tight around the tummy.

When I arrived, it was a delight to see a couple of male bloggers who are Jason Biadog and Eric Teodoro as even if I am slim, I have a fast metabolism and am a big eater. I love eating with those who do love to eat also and have to confess that I used the guys to cover up for me going on a total 'takaw' mode by ordering rice, not just once but three times. It was such a delightful way to start the New Year.

Samgyupsalamat food choices

Depending on the package you choose, you can help yourself to a variety of meat for grilling. The grill is situated in the middle of the table with a movable, elongated vent on top of it to remove the smoke. This grill is filled with hot coals, unlike other restaurants that use other types of fuel like butane. The natural heating element cooks the meat on the grill, giving it a sought-after dimension in flavor. Preference varies per person as a few bloggers liked their meat just right while others wanted the charcoal blackish-brown burnt crisp.

Their meat items included in the two different packages are

Daepae. Thinly sliced pork belly
Buljib. Herb pork belly
Yangnyum daepae. Thinly sliced pork belly marinated
Gochujang. Thinly sliced pork belly sweet and spicy marinade
Yangnyum moksal. Pork neck bone steak in a slightly sweet sauce
Beef samgyup. Thinly sliced beef
Yangnyum beef. Thinly sliced beef marinated
Bulgogi. Korean beef barbeque marinated in sweet soy sauce
Gochujang beef. Thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet and spicy marinade
Sarsa beef. Filipino-style marinated beef

There are five to six side dishes served,  depending on the availability of the hundreds of popular Korean side dishes. What is to be expected to be served us Kimchi. The meal comes with unlimited rice which is a high-grade kind of grain that is white and fluffy.

There is an additional item on the unli menu of that is a dip, or technically a cheese fondue. These items are in two small dip containers that are placed on the side of the grill. The melted cheese is creamy and spreadable. It can be used to wrap the meat, line the vegetable wrap, or as a dip.

For ushering the New Year and for all and any occasions, or when wanting to indulge in excellent unlimited meat and rice,  the first name when it comes to mind to decide where to eat will be Samgyupsalamat. It is an experience that you'll want to repeat, again and again.
