MANILA – Established
in 2004 in Los Angeles, CA by Deaf Asia USA founder and Green VAS
Communications Corp. CEO George Taylor, MATA EXPO has become the largest
multicultural expo that merges the Deaf community to the mainstream society in
the USA.
In California, the
annual 2 day MATA EXPO held every November has an average of 7,000 to 12,000
attendees per day and has emerged into a full on visual entertainment event
that showcases ent. Wrestling, Cosplay, Fashion shows, Lolita Competitions and
a variety of games, raffles and rides.
Since then, MATA EXPO has branched out in other countries such as Japan and the Philippines.
MATA EXPO JAPAN
In 2014 the 1st MATA
EXPO was a huge success in Kyoto, Japan which had around 3,000 attendees.
The next MATA EXPO
Japan which will become a 2 day event will be held on April 15 and 16, 2017 in
Kyoto, Japan.
MATA EXPO Philippines
In February 2012, the
1st MATA EXPO was held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. 3,000 people
attended this event that showcased local bands, merch booths, and a cosplay
contest.
Then in February 2014
& 201,5 MATA EXPO Manila were much bigger events that had had an average of
4,000 attendees in One Esplanade, Pasay City and catered to a larger more
mainstream audience which showcased attractions such as Cosplay, Lolita, KPOP
dance contests, Live entertainment wrestling featuring Deaf ent wrestlers from
Japan, US and the UK, merchandise booths and rides.
In February 2016, MATA
EXPO was held for the 1st time in Mandaue, Cebu City which had around 3,500
attendees and added a Tattoo competition, parkour demo and toy / gaming exhibits
to the usual attractions in the past years.
The upcoming MATA EXPO
will be on February 4 2017 which will be held in One Esplanade, Pasay City,
will definitely be a larger event tapping into the Gaming community with a
League of Legends Tournament, Cosplay and Lolita contest, KPOP Catwalk and Toy
/ Pokemon Go lure party, KPOP dance groups, Extreme sports and Visual arts.
Funds gathered from
these events go towards communication access and empowerment projects for the
Deaf and hard of hearing. (Video Relay Service & Live Captioning Services)
in cooperation with GreenVAS Communications, Deaf Asia foundation and Telecommunication
Service Network for the Deaf.
