DOST-ITDI Inaguration of the Philippine's First Innovation Hub, the Modular Multi-Industry Innovation Center

Bicutan, Taguig City, Feb. 18, 2021 ~ The Philippine's First Innovation Hub, the Modular Multi-Industry Innovation Center (MMIC) of the DOST-ITDI was a successful inauguration that had both physical, Facebook live, and Zoom attendees. 

The Department of Science and Technology – Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) launch conducted by DOST Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña, Undersecretary for R&D Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, and ITDI Director Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, among others, was the culminating moment of one of the various DOST supported projects that they have envisioned along with the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).

With this newly launched MMIC, the Philippines has the technology that matches that of Malaysia, Mexico, and Canada, as now there is an innovation hub to be used for advance scale up of the required research for food and nutraceutical products.

MMIC is this Department's platform for innovation to meet the ever-growing industry demands. ITDI's core Research and Development facility uses machines, processes, and streamline manufacturing for the selected by-products as raw materials, which is also known as the"backend innovation." The manufaturing facility is quipped with new modular equipment that have multi-functional use. ITDI is capable to retrofit these high-tech machines for the application of different manufacturing lines, for both manual and automated processing.

The tales untold do unfold of trust, betrayal, and broken promises

Acceptance of the neglect, lousy treatment, abuse, being used, pulled down, emotional manipulation, economic oppression, and the endless dangling of a dream are very difficult. 

We have choices to shun, fight, answer back, stand up for ourselves, wait, keep quiet, or move on. The choices that we make defines us and paves the way to future happiness and the present state of mind.

Lack of acceptance drives us to anger, actions, pleading, trying for manipulation, and even may drive us insane. 

For the lack of what we need and want, there are blank walls that fill the spaces. When a door closes, another opens, and so on. But then, knocking on the same door, knowing what will occur when trusting in the person, we must accept that the person is human. 

There are unforgivable mistakes. Some make us depreciate and deteriorate. Others make us dive down to situations that we scream in silence for mercy and are left unheard. 

The tales untold do unfold. Tug at the emotional heartstrings is useless. Ask for logic is also deemed as meaningless. Ask for ethical behavior is also not possible. 

Do not ask. 

The person has a brain to think if they use it. If there is empathy, it will come out. If there is sympathy, it will be shown. But, there are narcissists and other disorders, and sometimes, we have to accept the person, despite their behavior, to take the good with the bad. 

Yah, right. So I am writing this now. 

Borderline sarcastic. 

Trust me, and it is useless to speak up. 

Thus, the boiling rage remains inside. There is no time for a fight, as the others draw from your being and do not make you a priority in their life when they need you. 

Such is life, and life goes on to seek waters that are to flow with happiness and satisfaction with a symbiotic relationship that puts your needs and wants first. 

Katitikan Literary Journal’s new issue reimagines the pandemic Philippines

Katitikan, an online literary journal of the Philippine South, released its third issue with the theme (Re)Imaginations last February 14, 2021. 

The literary journal features literary works of 21st century Filipino writers from different parts of the country in English, Filipino, Cebuano, and Waray languages.

“Almost a year has passed now since we started living this life in pandemic limbo,” said Sigrid Gayangos, Katitikan editor, in the journal’s introduction “What Comes Next”. 

“Unprecedented is a word that has been thrown around, just as metaphors comparing the virus to a war waged by an invisible enemy have become ubiquitous,” said Gayangos.

“Through language, we are conditioned to think of militarism as positive and necessary in combating this crisis—unconsciously consenting to draconian security measures because they are done under the name of public health,” she added.

Some of the notable writers that contributed their literary works to this issue include Erika Carreon, R.B Abiva, Ben Aguilar, Mirick Paala, Hezron Pios, Cesar Miguel Escaño, and Reil Obinque.

The call for submissions for its first special issue on LGBTQ will be this March 2021.

Katitikan’s previous releases include the maiden issue published last June 2019 and Places and Spaces published last February 2020.

That twisted red string of fate

 

The lights are all shut. It is 3 pm on a pandemic day. After a much ado about nothing convo, few tears shed in the usual girly way, I wonder, where did I go wrong? It cannot be just me, as it goes both ways. But moving on, the edits can no longer be done. 

The wonder of it all, like standing on the edge of a cliff. Believe that someone will catch you when you fall after saying jump. After falling, holding on to a branch for dear life, you look up and say, throw me a rope, and there is no answer. Not a sound, not an echo. 

Life has second chances. 

The very first time I saw him, I knew. I was being called repeatedly to come near. What stopped me then? The hesitation was clear. It was this very moment, now. It was that moment then when I looked up to the streetline sky and wondered what to do? How to endure these things? 

I cannot. I gave up. 

But in the desire to hope and keep believing that there was value, it strikes out as demanding. So be it, if one cannot speak up or ask. Life is like that. 

Remembering the time, not so long ago, when the needs were not met. How many doors have to close, or is it a lifetime of regret? To knock on the door of a heart made of stone...

Hello. It is there again. Here we go again. 

Such a pity, such a waste. Wait a minute, an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year, a decade, until the end of my days, and then it may all be for nothing, except...

I can't trash it. 

I can't blame myself either. Today, it is clear. Save yourself; that's how much I love you. Go. Keep everything. How many times have I done that in my life? Left with far less, giving up all for the one that had said he loved me. Isn't it stupid? 

It is stupid. 

And, it's ok. The struggle for finances is real, but hey, at least it wasn't me who ran away with the funds. At least it wasn't me who stepped on someone. I didn't and won't. Keep it. 

As the walls tumbled down, I tore it down. No use in hoping. There are no regrets, as there was enough time given. It cannot be the ideal relationship if one is drowning and struggling for air while the other does not think about it today. It is pandemic. So, love dissolves, as it always does, into a sorry mess that no one wants to pick up. I made it a point as I cannot go on when broken. 

I cannot go on at my expense. It pains me and it slowly makes me get into a worse situation. I am not sorry. I just have to live. J am dying here.

Is this fiction? 

The waking dream becomes a reality that unfolds into such lovely things that surround my daily life. It oozes with complacency, security, with no fear, and no demands. There is no need to ask as all given, even before I ask. With the needs met, what is there to do but become content? 

That is the love. It is thoughtful. It does not neglect. It is a step ahead. It was there on time. On call anytime. Is there ahead of time—fights the battles through time and goes for the win.
