NOVUHAIR: INFORMATIVE TRUTH ON HAIR CHEMICALS

We may not be aware that we are unknowingly putting harmful chemicals on our hair thus resulting to general conditions such as migraine, nausea and skin rashes. The symptoms maybe quickly attributed to stress but if you look closer to that hair product you’re using, you’ll be surprise to find the culprit.

Popularity does not equate to safety, some popular brands sold in the market are loaded with mildly toxic chemicals that may be harmful in prolonged use.

Novuhair, Nature’s answer to hair loss, gives you the lowdown on these chemicals to help you with your choices.

Myth: Shampoo must produce lots of lather in order to properly clean your hair.
Truth: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a compound that helps shampoo and other cleaning product in producing foam and bubbles. Though it may effectively remove hair build-up, it can also strip off essential oils that is needed to keep your hair healthy.

Myth: Parabens has an anti-bacterial compound benefits that outweighs the harm.
Truth: Parabens are basically used to prolong the shelf life of hair and cosmetic products mostly for its antibacterial purpose. Symptoms that are related to over exposure to parabens are Atopic Dermatitis and Rosacea. Further studies also show that use of products with parabens accelerate skin damage and aging related to sun exposure.

Myth: My hair smells terrific! I love the perfume scent on my hair product.
Truth: A nice whiff of perfume might not be harmful but the fragrance that is mixed in your hair product might have come from harmful substances from highly toxic ingredients which can lead to Allergic reactions and mood swings. That perfume is better off somewhere else.

Myth: Hair products that promise straightening and smoothening effect use non-toxic Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate as a natural preservative.
Truth: Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate is a substance used in making your hair soft and bouncy, although it is considered natural preservative, also releases formaldehyde which can lead to skin and eye irritations. Prolonged use may also affect your immune system.
Use of some of these chemicals combined may also result to hair loss and other hair problems, thus, it is important to be an informed consumer. A lot of new products have saturated the market hence, read the labels for fine prints before buying.

HerbalifeNutrition At Work Survey Reveals Filipino Millennials Desire Healthy, Active Workplace Environment

While the survey conducted reveals that more Filipino millennials are engaging in regular physical activities outside work, they find it difficult to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle in the modern workplace.

PHILIPPINES, Oct.  27, 2016: Herbalife Nutrition, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Millennials At Work Survey which revealed that Filipino millennials are adapting a healthy, active lifestyle, however, most believe their current workplace environment prevents them from doing so.

Millennials, or people born in between 1980 and 2000, are opting for a workplace that will encourage them to stay active, if only this will be embedded in every company culture.  About 83 percent or eight in 10 millennials have agreed that they would like their company workplace to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.

With the millennial generation expected to make up 50 percent of the global workforce by 2020, ensuring the wellbeing of millennials will be important to improving workplace productivity. “There are about 35 million millennials now in the Philippines, which is about one-third of the country’s entire population. Five years from now, millennials will be dominating the labor force. While most millennials want to lead healthy lives, they face real obstacles at work in doing so,” said Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines General Manager. “At Herbalife Nutrition, we provide our employees with nutrition products at work, subsidize gym memberships, hold regular wellness programs related to nutrition and well-being, and encourage participation in outdoor activities and sports competitions.”

Additionally, the survey findings revealed the following:

·         Seven (7) out of 10 millennials strive to live healthy, active lives
·
However, the majority of millennials find it challenging to maintain an active lifestyle at work – eight (8) out of 10 millennials spend 6 to 13 hours at their work desk each day, and 64% of millennials get less than 30 minutes of physical activity - including standing, stretching and walking at work on an average work day.

·        Additionally, 64% of millennials cited the “lack of time” as the key obstacle to engaging in physical activity at work.

To provide tips on how millennials and their employers can integrate positive nutrition and life style habits at their workplaces, Herbalife Nutrition has organized a sixth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, which builds upon the successes of the past five tours that welcomed over 100, 000  participants. Five experts from the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) are scheduled to tour 21 Asian cities from October 7 to 30, to hold a series of talks, workshops and medical symposia across the region.

“Through these efforts, we hope to equip organizations and employees with the right tools to collectively build a healthier work environment across Asia Pacific,” said Valenzuela.

Julian Alvarez Garcia, M.D., Ph.D., a member of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board, will be visiting Manila for the Asia Pacific Wellness Tour this October. Julian Alvarez Garcia, M.D., Ph.D. will also be sharing expert advice on how millennials can adopt simple positive nutrition and lifestyle habits at work to improve their overall well-being in the long run.

Some of the tips to help foster a healthier millennial workforce include:

·         Nutrition

o   Dedicate a healthy eating day each week and get colleagues involved in making healthy choices for lunch on this day.
o   Boost water intake to help the body digest food, rid the body of toxins, and help deliver nutrients to the cells. Drink at least eight (8) glasses or two (2) liters of water a day.
o   Have a protein shake combined with non-fat milk and healthy fruit for breakfast. With 20-30 grams of protein and low-fat contents, it can provide the body with all the nutrition it needs to power through the day.

·         Active Living

o   Create a playlist that incorporates upbeat music and play with hourly intervals.
o   Use Running Apps to keep energized and on-pace during regular runs.
o   Set a goal to join running competitions to motivate self to sustain an active lifestyle.

Herbalife’s Millennials At Work Survey was conducted in 2016, with 5,500 respondents aged 18 and above, from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Vita Cubes: The Good Candy

Vita Cubes
When is a candy good? We all know that kids must have candy, in the same way that some adults also do, and there are times that candy is good as the sugar in it does help us get a certain kind of high that can help us become more alert - and that is why it is a good idea to have a candy when taking a school examination.

Yet, as a general rule, eating candy should be limited as with all things that do contain sugar - but with kids, that is nearly impossible to do - so you would have to give a child candies that are good for them.

After all, they are only kids once and to deprive them of such childhood happiness or allow them to indulge in too much - well, there are distinct benefits to a child having Vita Cubes candy.

If you would take a minute or two to read the label of Vita Cubes, you will see why it it the candy to choose - as what does those other candies contain? Vita Cubes does have Lysine that helps them grow, Vitamin C, a big does of Vitamin A, and Vitamin B, among other things.

Also, since Vita Cubes it is a jelly, kids won't bite on it. Hard candies do make kids get all kind of trouble as it stays in the mouth longer, creating cavities, making them bite it with their weaker first set of teeth. Also, with hard candy, it does get swallowed and can cause chocking. I should know, I have swallowed a candy before when it was small already and that was a lousy experience, and my daughter choked on a Wonka Gobstopper, making me do the Heimlich maneuver on her. I still remember that day and how terrible the experience was for her and me as a mother. There was no Vita Cubes then.

Choose the candy that a child will consume wisely. I recommend Vita Cubes, the good candy
, and a child can safely consume a packet with 10 daily, even if they are taking vitamins. Note that all food and beverage consumption of a child must be monitored, not giving them excess nor too little. Candies are not in the food pyramid but then, a child needs supplements which comes from vitamins and minerals, and children must have candy.

Snapcart: Get Cash and Rewards for Grocery Shopping

Snapcart users can now enjoy the app more as it brings in more updates and added features to increase cashbacks, simply by snapping receipts!
Snapcart is a mobile app that gives its users cashback by simply taking a snap of grocery receipts. In turn, data gathered from receipts provide real-time shopper insights to the app’s partner brands.

To bring in more rewards to app users, Snapcart announced users may take a snap, not just of grocery – but other retail stores such as pharmacies, health and beauty stores.  This will eventually expand to all retail establishments including food & beverages, electronics, and apparels, to name a few. Rewards increase as users regularly use the app.
“We received an overwhelming response from users. We got more than a thousand downloads per day in the first weeks of the launch, surpassing our already strong results in Indonesia, but we still got questions on what receipts to upload. To take the guesswork out and make it more rewarding for users, Snapcart decided to update its features to accept all types of receipts. We also made it more engaging by introducing in-app games that could let users win even more rewards”, said Snapcart Co-founder, Mayeth Condicion.
The new game is called Snaptastic, an in-app bonus game feature where users can accumulate coins just by filling out in-app surveys, watching videos, taking selfies with their favorite products, or guessing mystery products. These coins may be used to increase users’ chances of getting cash, and other interesting surprises like shopping vouchers from Snapcart’s partner brands.

What’s in it for enterprises?
On a global scale, e-commerce giants like Amazon and eBay dominate the use of real-time data analytics. Off the shelf brands continue to rely on manually gathered and limited data on consumer preferences and behavior.
In the Philippines, the online retail market accounts for more or less 3% of the population[1], majority of Filipino shoppers still prefer doing their shopping off the shelf, thus the need for a more efficient way to gather offline and online data.
Snapcart technology is able to bridge the gap in gathering online and offline data by analyzing receipts in real time, and providing meaningful insights on how to understand customers better, to grow brands, and to see what drives growth or assess effectiveness of marketing promotions and campaigns.
As Snapcart processes more variety of receipts, the app can expand data analytics services to industries beyond Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) to fashion, electronics, or food and beverages brands to name a few, providing more brands with better understanding of shoppers’ habits and preferences.
Snaptastic makes shopping more fun for users. While users have fun playing the in-app game, and increase cashbacks, brands on the other hand, gain more insight on consumer behavior through surveys, crowd-sourced images or more receipts that they submit while playing the game.

This is a breakthrough in an otherwise traditional way of conducting and answering surveys, and helps obtain even deeper insights about shoppers.
For more information, visit the Snapcart Asia website or Facebook and download the app at the Google Play Store.
