The team also visited the Bakwit Village Transition Shelter in Marawi last March 11, 2018, where the evacuees were delighted to taste McDonald’s newest breakfast offering.  The simple act of giving the gift of a free sandwich brought light to their day and spread cheer amongst the evacuess. .

As part of its annual tradition, McDonald’s continues to feature inspiring stories of hope and new beginnings or “bagong simula” through an online video that is released on National Breakfast Day.

Yang, McDonald's Philippines’ President and Chief Executive Officer. “This year, McDonald’s reached out to our fellow Filipinos who are most in need, following recent events that happened in their communities. A 'Sunny Playtime' with Iya and Primo Arellano

Celebrity mom Iya Villania-Arellano admits she has forgotten how relatively easy her daily routines were before Baby Primo arrived. “I’m not sure how I balance my career with being a mom and a wife; it just happens!” she beams.

When you know what's important and what you need to get done, then you make it happen. It's important that I list things down so I don't forget. I really need to put things down on my calendar even if its date night with Drew or a playdate for Primo.

It’s no wonder why Iya was the natural choice of Cosmetique Asia, the makers of Bambini Baby Cologne, to be its newest endorser, together with Primo. Bambini Baby Cologne underwent a brand refresh with a new look guaranteed to appeal to the young ones.

We wanted to focus on the playful bond that kids share with their parents. With Bambini, we make these precious random moments more enjoyable. It is evident even in our packaging. We made sure they are attractive enough for children so in choosing what variant to buy, parents and kids get to have fun and interact. All these while maintaining the high-quality standard and other requirements most parents are looking for — hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested. In the near future, we want to launch a complete range of child-specific products with a fun loving vibe,” says Cosmetique Asia’s Vice President for Sales and Corporate Development, Tim Chuongco.

Inspired by mom-and-child bonding activities and fun elements of nature, the new and improved Bambini Baby Cologne features five new scents: the floral and sweet “Morning Tickles,” the calming “Starry Lullaby,” the clean and breezy “Ocean Kisses,” the cottony fresh “Cotton Cuddles,” and — Iya and Primo’s favorite — the citrusy and fun “Sunny Playtime.”

“We love Sunny Playtime. It's just the scent I prefer on Primo. It has a nice, mild, yummy scent that makes Primo nakakagigil even more! I also love how playful and inviting the packaging is. We actually have to hide the bottles from Primo because he likes to point to the mom and baby animals on the sticker front, then open the bottle to put some cologne on. Baka maligo na sa cologne eh,” Iya laughs.

For Iya, as with all working moms, the greatest challenge is to be there for her child “every moment he does something new or silly” and wanting to be there to witness it. And adding to the challenge and excitement is her announcement of having another baby boy. “Primo doesn't really understand that yet so we're enjoying him as he is for now. When he starts to get curious with my growing belly, then we'll start explaining,” she shares.

For a perfect mom-and-baby playtime, Iya and Primo recently joined toddlers and their parents for the official unveiling of the new Bambini Baby Cologne at Glorietta 3 Activity Center. Dubbed the Bambini Baby Cologne Family Bootcamp, the wonderful kiddie event transformed the venue into a wonderland of fun games and activities for kids, including a ball pit, a bouncy castle, giant puzzle blocks and a larger-than-life coloring book, where guests and their children could bond and enjoy the little surprises the activities bring out.

My grandchild, Renee Quema for Bambini's "Life's Little Surprises"
As Bambini relaunches with a new product for babies and kids, it hopes to be a part of every parent and child’s small moments and big adventures. Available in three sizes — 25ml, 50ml and 125ml — and packaged in an easy-to-go grip curvy bottle, the Bambini Baby Cologne lets parents and children enjoy life’s little surprises anytime, anywhere.

This year, PIFS will also be featuring and showing tribute to renowned artists in the country. “For the special lobby installations, we have collaborated with three famed artists in this generation: Dex Fernandez – the artist behind the rounded, many legged "Garapata" character taking over cities across the world in the form of stickers and street art; Robert Alejandro – painter, award-winning graphic artist, crafter, visual merchandiser, and one of the pillars of Filipino arts and crafts shop Papemelroti; and Tata Montilla – an artist with a natural interest on textures and various surface finishing, and abstractions that show his inner sanctum of balance and life's uncertainties,” said Ina Gaston, Event Chair for CFIF. “We also have a special tribute to the late Osmundo Esguerra, a self-made furniture craftsman who excelled in woodwork and developing a unique style that combines traditional and contemporary aesthetics to highlight the organic beauty of wood. THIS JUST IN: #HANGINfection is here!

February 27, 2018 – Safeguard debuts “I Wash It That Way” featuring Alden Richards. The music video serves as a public service announcement about airborne germs that may cause infection or #HANGINfection with a 90’s pop twist.
Did you know that germs can touch you, even if you don't touch them?

We all know that germs can be passed through person-to-person contact or touching dirty objects. What many of us don't know is that germs live in the air, too. If you believe that not touching anything or anyone can keep germs at bay, you better think again.
Alden Richards teaches kids and families about the germs present in the air, may it be from smoke, dust, or from another person’s sneeze.

#HANGINfection, technically known as Bioaerosols, refers to airborne germs such as bacteria, fungi and viruses that may cause skin reactions and respiratory sickness. Bioaerosols can come from a variety of sources, including soil, organic debris, humidifiers, air conditioners, and even farming and industrial pollution. The human body is also a source of bioaerosols: Shed human skin, coughing and sneezing can all contribute to airborne germs. These can make you sick in unexpected ways. For example, when you sneeze, most of the germs are transmitted at close range, but you need not be close to fall sick, as the smallest particles stay airborne and can travel as far as 20 meters.” says Dr. Pierangeli Vital, Ph.D. Biology (Microbioliogy), University of the Philippines Diliman.

Good thing, Safeguard, Philippine's Number 1 Family Skin Germ Protection Soap, partners with Pambansang Bae Alden Richards to spread the word about #HANGINfection and how to fight it. The fun part? They didn’t just make it informative. They also made it fun and nostalgic!
Alden brings his boyband swag, in his rendition of “I Wash It That Way”-- Safeguard’s spin to the hit 90’s song I Want It That Way.

The "I Wash It That Way" music video gives a Backstreet Boys hit song a fresh spin to uncover the truth behind #HANGINfection. As told in the music video, #HANGINfection can reach us, including our children, even if we’re not touching anything or anyone. In short, we don’t just touch germs. They touch us, too!
“We know airborne germs are present in outdoor and indoor locations, and only Safeguard provides long lasting protection versus other soaps in the market,” says Ronaldo Puno, President of The Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc. (PAMET).

The Pambasang Bae reminds everyone, that for #HANGINfection, Safeguard ang protection!

For more than 50 years now, Safeguard has been providing Filipinos their first line of defense against germs, inhibiting the growth of disease-causing germs up to 24 hours after washing.
Join Alden and Safeguard in spreading awareness about #HANGINfection!

Watch and share the "I Wash It That Way" music video on Safeguard’s Facebook and YouTube.  Do your share as it matters in the fight against airborne germs. As Alden stresses in the jingle, basta HANGINfection, Safeguard ang protection.

Sustainable Seafood Week PH 2018: Insights of the Opening Event at Marriott Manila

All Local Seafood: Do you want your boodle fight to have such great seafood? It might surprise you to discover that the primary ingredients in this featured boodle fight are home-grown.

Sustainable Seafood

With the longest shoreline in the world, when adding all the islands shorelines, and with numerous water forms such as lakes and rivers, the Philippines has vast wealth when it comes to marine resources, specifically, seafood.

The opening event of the Philippine Sustainable Seafood Week 2018 held on Feb. 26 at the Grand Ballroom A of Marriott Manila was an eye-opener. It focused on our country and the vast wealth of food that we can harvest from our seas and other water forms.

The splendid seafood feast of the opening event had no unknown, imported, exotic catch as what was served was our very own shellfish, seaweeds, crustaceans, and fish that are of international standard when it comes to freshness, size, texture, and taste.

Leveling up the texture and taste factors more was the exquisite gourmet touch of the chefs from the various food establishments that participate in this cause.

We all know that great chefs can create wonderful dishes. The truth is, as every cook knows, the quality of the dish will just be as superb as the ingredients and that is why excellent chefs demand only the best.

That is what makes the difference when choosing what seafood to serve. We choose to have the best. We can choose to make a difference and take care of our seafood.

For those who wonder why this cause is so very vital to our nation and to the whole world for that matter, it is the resources that we have which may be depleted in the near future. Aside from that, this cause will make our country greatly benefit from the knowledge and support given by the Sustainable Seafood cause group.

That might not be enough for those of us who are not affected directly as we might not be in that industry and just consume seafood. Yet, it is very relevant to us all, as it can help us win the fight against hunger and poverty, especially for those who live in the villages near the shore, if we all unite, take action, and adhere to the principles of this cause.

Sustainable Seafood Questions

Closer to home, take a moment to consider that seafood dish you last consumed. The sustainability queries that may be asked before buying and consuming your next seafood meal include:

Where did this come from?

Those who go frequently go to the fish market know that certain fish like milkfish (bangus)comes from a different area by looking at fin tail to say, "That is from Dagupan." Still, when there is a red tide alert, news advisories state that we must not to buy or eat a specific kind of shellfish, even if the vendor insists that it comes from a different place that has no red tide. Ever wonder why some tilapia are mestizo while some are brown? Aside from the location, it is good to have the assurance that the water conditions that the seafood came from is good - and that is where Sustainable Seafood can help.

How was it caught? Illegal fishing methods such as dynamite fishing dramatically change the way it looks. Ever seen fish with partially broken heads, sunken eyes with some scales missing? In the Filipino term, it looks "bugbog" which directly translates to beaten up - and those are the signs of the catch of dynamite fishing.

Save Our Seafood, Eat Better

We know we should expect better seafood but it seems impossible to find. Instead, we might even end up with juvenile ones like those small, filleted milk fish that have been preserved in vinegar (daing na bangus). Ever wonder why those small fish are being sold? It could be a number of reasons, such as these being caught not being thrown back into the water to grow into full harvest length.

Times may be difficult and a fisherman might have to catch all that he can, juvenile or not, without nary a thought about the future. What that fisherman does not realize is that the reason that he catches less now is because that is the destruction done by those ahead of him that disregarded the future, and the bleak future has happened as there is less fish to catch as the juvenile fish would have ensured his catch for the near future.

Sustainable Seafood answers these questions that are of primary concern. It also protects, saves, and makes better our seafood for our needs now and that of the future generation.

We Can Make the Changes Needed

We can do more for caring and protecting. We can upgrade the quality and processes of our harvests, and provide ways for the small fishing industries to enter the international market. If we take care of what we can eat now, we can be able to do all that it takes to ensure a better future for our children and our children's children - and we can enjoy the benefits of having an international standard seafood industry.

Tell me, as you looked at the pictures of the seafood in this blog post - when was the last time you were able to buy such high-quality seafood ingredients? You can eat better seafood and those in the industry will be able to even lower prices when there is a profusion of seafood, like before.

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

Author's Note: Water is Water

In 2008, our own tawilis was on the brink of extinction and recently, as our President Duterte said, ""But you go into the water, it's smelly. Smell of what? S***, Because everything that goes out in Boracay… it's destroying the environment or the Republic of the Philippines and creating a disaster coming."

Water is water and that is the chemical truth of it. What is in the water makes it either salty like sea water. Did you ever wonder while eating seafood - what might just be in the water?
